Attention – Compact Knowledge – the training week enters its fourth round! We look forward to seeing you in the Medicine and Sciences Library from May 12 to 16, 2024. Thirteen courses in the mornings and evenings on how to work scientifically, held in German or English, are waiting for you.

Chatbots in Practice: Pushing the Limits of AI Responses

Content	This interactive workshop invites participants to critically explore the capabilities and limitations of chatbots by testing them hands-on. Each participant can use the chatbot of their choice (e.g., ChatGPT, Claude or other chatbots) to experiment with different types of prompts. Together, we will push these systems to their limits, analyzing where they provide truly useful answers and where their reliability begins to break down. The goal is to develop a deeper understanding of chatbot usability and to identify the points where skepticism and critical thinking become essential in evaluating AI-generated responses. Bring a device with an active chatbot account and join us in this collaborative exploration of human-machine interaction.

Visualise your scientific data effectively and avoid common pitfalls (English)

Content	This workshop aims to provide guidelines for creating correct, accessible and graphically attractive visualisations of scientific data. The participants will become familiar with the basics of graphic design for data visualisation and learn how to create scientifically correct, effective and attractive graphics and how to avoid common pitfalls when visualising scientific data. It is particularly useful for those who are preparing their first scientific publication.

KI-Lab: Artificial Intelligence tools for the scientific work

Content	In this workshop, we will introduce various AI tools that can be particularly helpful for the scientific work, such as literature research and understanding scientific articles. We will not only highlight the potentials but also the limitations of these tools. You are cordially invited to participate with a digital device (tablet, PC, or smartphone) to try out the presented tools. Furthermore, we look forward to an open discussion on the topic of artificial intelligence in research and education.

Navigating the academic publishing system (English)

Content	Getting the first research articles published can feel like navigating the waters of a stormy ocean. The academic publishing system is designed to ensure quality, transparency, and equity in disseminating scientific knowledge. However, its processes may not be immediately intuitive to everyone. In this workshop, we will start from real examples of published research articles and demystify the intricate journey of scientific publication. From crafting a well-prepared manuscript to submitting it, undergoing peer review, and ultimately achieving publication, you will gain insights into the entire process. The goal is to empower the participants with the knowledge needed to confidently navigate the academic publishing landscape. The workshop will also touch on important related topics, including literature research, science metrics, open science, ethics and integrity in publishing, and more. It is tailored for students and early-career scientists preparing their inaugural scientific publication but everyone is welcome.
