Bequest of Karl Bücher

In cooperation with the University Archives and the Chair of Historical and Systematic Communication Science at Leipzig University, the bequest of the national economist, historian, and newspaper scholar Karl Bücher has been cataloged and digitized in the Kalliope catalog. Around two-thirds of Bücher’s bequest are located in the University Library, while one-third is located in the University Archives.

The goal of the DFG-funded joint project of the University Library, the University Archives, and the Chair of Historical and Systematic Communication Science is to catalog, digitize, and research the bequest of Karl Bücher (1847–1930). In manuscript notes for publications and lectures, letters and notes, it documents the diverse scientific activities and the international reputation in Germany and abroad of the national economist, historian, and newspaper scholar Bücher. The legacy also reflects a significant part of the history of German science, its international relationships, and the interconnections of science from the 1880s to the 1920s.
