Bequests of Julius and Julius Wilhelm Klengel

With private support, the bequests of Julius Wilhelm Klengel (1818–1879) and Julius Klengel (1859–1939) were digitized and cataloged in the Kalliope catalogue.

The musicians and composers Julius Wilhelm Klengel (1818–1879) and Julius Klengel (1859–1939) were key figures in Leipzig’s musical history. Wilhelm Julius taught at the Leipzig Conservatory; his son Julius made a career as a cellist. He was considered a “Cello-Paganini” and “Cello-King” by his contemporaries. The extensive bequest, which includes personal documents of the Klengel family, a wide range of compositions, and extensive correspondence, is presented in its entirety in Kalliope, along with the corresponding digitizations.
