Library Rules

Leipzig University Library is a place of study and work which promotes communication and is characterized by tolerance, mutual respect and consideration. Please conduct yourself in a manner which does not disturb or alarm other people and does not interfere with their planned use of the library's premises and services.

Treatment of library property

Please treat library property such as books and other materials as well as fixtures, fittings and furniture carefully.

Food and drink

Beverages in stable, tightly closed containers are allowed in reading areas as long as they do not disturb anyone. Food may only be consumed in designated areas and not in reading areas.

Please set mobile phones and other electronic devices so that they don't disturb anyone else. Face-to-face and telephone conversations should only be conducted outside reading areas.

Library cards

Library cards are personal and non-transferable.

Please observe the rules in force in branch library governing items which must be left in the cloakroom.

Alcohol, tobacco and drugs

Smoking is strictly prohibited throughout the library. This also applies to electronic cigarettes. People under the influence of alcohol and/or illegal drugs may not use the library premises. The consumption of alcohol in the library is only allowed at approved events.

No animals (with the exception of assistance dogs) may be taken into the library.

Flyers and posters

Advertising and information materials may only be put up or displayed with the approval of the library management in the areas designated for this purpose.

Photos, filming and interviews

Individuals who want to take photos in the library for their own personal use may do so during opening hours without special approval, as long as they do not infringe anybody else's right to privacy and do not disrupt the operation of the library. The prior permission of the library management is required for commercial photography, filming and sound-recording as well as interviews on library premises.

Disregarding these rules may lead to your being barred from the library.
