Update on the closures affecting Leipzig University Library

Due to the corona crisis, all our branches are now completely closed until further notice. Items cannot even be returned or borrowed using the self-service terminals. All borrowed items have been automatically renewed until 5 May 2020 and no fines for overdue items will be imposed in this period.

Our services are limited to our stock of e-books, which will be expanded over the coming weeks. Members of Leipzig University can access e-books and other electronic resources via the university network by VPN. Information and instructions on VPN access can be found on the website of the University Computer Centre.

Otherwise, we can only offer services that can mostly be provided by staff working from home:

  • Assistance with search requests or obtaining literature from online databases or open access sources
  • Support in the event of problems with e-books
  • The document delivery service and obtaining literature are strictly limited to important literature for human and veterinary medicine. Enquiries should be sent to fernleihe@medizin.uni-leipzig.de.

We’re sorry, but books, essays, document deliveries and other requests requiring access to printed material cannot be provided.

If you need to contact us, we can be reached between 10 am and 6 pm by chat (on the website) and by e-mail (info@ub.uni-leipzig.de).

Please keep an eye on our website, where we will try to update our news every day. In addition, we will shortly be posting information on our blog about important access points, databases and e-book packages.

We have compiled answers to your questions regarding interlibrary loans, lockers and the document delivery service in a FAQ.

We apologize for any inconvenience caused by these sweeping measures.

Due to the current situation and following the recommendations of the Robert Koch Institute about the coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2), all branches of Leipzig University Library will be closed until further notice from 16 March 2020 starting at 7 pm (or normal closing time if earlier). The Medicine and Sciences Library and the Law Library have already been closed.

From 17 March, items can still be borrowed and returned at Bibliotheca Albertina, the Campus Library, and the Library of Education and Sport Science. Reference literature can also be borrowed with immediate effect. Items can be borrowed and returned only by using the self-service terminals.

Please note the changed opening hours of all three branches:
Monday to Friday, 10 am–6 pm

Fines for overdue items have been suspended until further notice.

Students, members and associates of Leipzig University are asked to make increased use of the online resources, which are available via VPN regardless of location. For more information, go here.

The library team can still be contacted, preferably by email (info@ub.uni-leipzig.de). We normally respond within one working day.
